We engage in this process in order to understand and be aware of our environment. The way we perceive things is influenced by our past experiences as well as the stimuli received by our receptors.

Throughout history, humanity has always perceived the world through those same two eyes. Humankind has always seen humankind through the eyes of our limited experience.

   Jun 30,  · When you are perceiving yourself, you have a lot of background into the situation. You are pretty clear on your intentions, and know why you made the decision you did. If something goes wrong, you are likely to blame the situation, and give yourself a break. You aren't a jerk, you just were placed in a bad situation.

The images that are captured on your retina are also upside down but your brain converts the information so you perceive the world correctly.

   Although perception is a largely cognitive and psychological process, how we perceive the people and objects around us affects our communication. We respond differently to an object or person that we perceive favorably than we do to something we find unfavorable.
